Fightrunner still carries on, we are in the process of a re-imagining at the moment so we will transfer all those great reviews and articles over here of the coming days all building up to the launch of www.fightrunner.co.uk which promises to be an event like no other!

Alice, Burton style

2008.07.24
Gothic director Tim Burton is going to make a CGI/Live action version of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland to be released in 2010.

With the 1951 Disney version being saccharine sweet, we should expect Burton’s film to be a hell of a lot darker. Imagine what his Queen of Hearts will be like.

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that 18 year old Mia Wasikowska is in final talks to play Alice. She’s also going to be popping up in the Daniel Craig World War 2 film Defiance.

Peter Berg Tackles A true Classic

2008.07.24

Peter Berg the man who brought us the instantly forgettable Hancock this year has decided to take on one The Classic of all time. Namely the legend of Hercules , son of the Greek God Zeus thankfully its not going to be Peter Berg’s The Illiad but rather based on a series of comic books.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars. This five-issue series, by Steve Moore, takes place 3,500 years in the past with a tyrannical king trying to unite the disparate tribes of Thrace into one powerful nation. He hires Hercules and his band of mercenaries to lead his army into war.

My only thoughts is this could lead to a summer of the Greek mythological movies so i’m taking bets on how long before a ‘re-imaging’ of Jason And The Argonauts and eventually a CGI remake of that legendary Ray Harryhausen skeleton fight?

You Know I’m Starting to Warm to him …

2008.07.23

Direct from the horse’s blog so to speak. McG has written on the official terminator 4 blog about the upcoming movie and the more you hear from him the more you think there just might be something to the fellow…

“We are half way through filming. Our teaser is in theaters and playing before The Dark Knight. You will see that this is a movie inspired by the first films, but is a true new beginning in that it takes place in the future.

All three Terminator films took place present day, with Terminators traveling back in time to attack. This picture takes place after Judgment Day. It happened. Everything is gone. The story of the movie is the “brink moment” Reese always talked about.

From a technical perspective, we have set out to achieve a completely new visual style that hasn’t been seen before. We’re shooting the film on color stock but are using a method inspired by the Oz process which was developed at Technicolor by Mike Zacharia and Bob Olson. Basically we are adding three times as much silver. It creates a surreal texture that is in keeping with the notion of the entire picture – feeling detached from the world we know today.

Every morning and every night Christian and I work on the story. Sam’s contribution has been excellent. We are committed to putting the story and character first and then supplementing that with action and visual effects. It is our intention to make a film on a large scale with the nuance and subtext of a high quality independent picture.

The richness of the story is really coming out now. It’s a Prometheus tale really, how creating life creates real responsibility – and if left unchecked, can be our undoing. The entire crew takes the making of this film very seriously. I made a point of hiring key personnel that are passionate about getting this right. Everyone is well versed in the mythology.

At first i was dobtfull but the more info that comes out the more i think this could be the saving of this once great franchise.

McKellan Is Back

2008.07.23

It has been confirmed at last that Sir Iain McKellan is getting ready to grow the famous beard as he prepares to return as Gandalf in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit.

Sir Iain said that whilst the dotted line had not been signed on he is very happy with the direction Guillermo Del Toro will be taking with Lord of the Rings Prequel due out in 2010. From the man himself:

“Well, if you’re not going to have Peter Jackson, who else can handle the job? To get an international film-maker of his standing who adores the original trilogy, well I don’t think you could possibly find a better replacement,” he said. “I think the look will be very much as it was, Weta is still involved, it’s still the same workshops, the same designers, I’ll be there, Andy Serkis (now confirmed to return as Gollum) will be there and Peter Jackson will still be around – not that he’ll interfere too much – so it’ll seem like the old family is getting back together again.”
